Barings and Cathay United Bank Deepen Private Banking Partnership in Asia through DPM Investment Strategy in Singapore

Barings, one of the world's leading alternative investment managers, today announced an expanded partnership with Cathay United Bank Singapore Branch ("CUB Singapore"). Through the partnership, Barings Singapore Pte. Ltd. has been appointed as an investment strategy provider to support CUB Singapore’s Discretionary Portfolio Management (DPM) solution.

The collaboration brings together Barings’ global investment expertise, portfolio strategy experience and institutional investment heritage with CUB Singapore’s private banking platform, regional client insights and wealth management capabilities. Together, these complementary capabilities will support CUB Singapore in delivering professionally managed and diversified portfolio solutions within its private banking business.

Barings will leverage its global investment platform and institutional portfolio management experience to provide investment advisory services to CUB Singapore, including asset allocation and investment recommendations, in support of CUB Singapore’s DPM solution. CUB Singapore will consider these investment insights with its understanding of Asian wealth clients and private banking capabilities to deliver the DPM service as part of its broader private banking proposition.

By combining their respective strengths, the partnership enables CUB Singapore’s business to leverage Barings’ global investment perspectives and portfolio expertise through a professionally managed investment framework designed to support disciplined portfolio construction, diversification and long-term wealth objectives.

The appointment builds on a longstanding relationship between Barings and Cathay Financial Holdings’ subsidiaries across investment management, advisory and distribution. Over the years, the two organizations have collaborated on a range of investment solutions across asset classes, establishing a strong foundation for the next phase of their partnership.

Alastair Wright, Head of APAC at Barings, said: “This appointment reflects the strength of our longstanding relationship with Cathay Holdings’ subsidiaries and our shared commitment to delivering institutional-quality investment solutions across Asia Pacific. Barings has a long history of partnering with institutions and wealth management partners through customized mandates, advisory relationships and tailored portfolio solutions. Drawing on our institutional heritage and decades of experience managing bespoke client portfolios, we look forward to supporting CUB Singapore through this strategic partnership and sharing our global investment insights and capabilities.”

Soo Hai Lim, Chief Executive Officer of Barings Singapore, said: "Singapore continues to strengthen its position as a leading wealth management hub for Southeast Asia and the broader Asia Pacific region, supported by growing private wealth, a strong regulatory environment and increasing demand for sophisticated investment solutions. As high-net-worth investors seek greater portfolio customization and access to a broader range of investment opportunities, we believe discretionary investment solutions will play an increasingly important role. Through our established Singapore presence and dedicated local investment and client service teams, Barings is well positioned to support wealth management partners across the region.”

Robert Fuh, Chief Executive Officer of Private Banking at Cathay United Bank, said: “Singapore is an important market in the continued development of Cathay United Bank’s regional private banking business. As our clients increasingly seek more holistic and professionally managed portfolio solutions, we continue to broaden and deepen our investment offering.”

“By combining Barings’ global investment expertise and portfolio construction experience with Cathay United Bank’s deep understanding of our clients and established private banking platform, our DPM offering provides clients with access to a disciplined investment framework designed to help them navigate changing market environments and pursue their long-term wealth objectives.

“We are pleased to build on our longstanding relationship with Barings as we continue to strengthen our private banking franchise in Singapore and across the region. Together with our presence in Taiwan and Hong Kong, Singapore strengthens our ability to serve clients across key Asian wealth markets.”

As investor demand for diversified and professionally managed portfolio solutions continues to grow, Barings and Cathay United Bank are well positioned to build on their longstanding relationship and  deliver innovative wealth management investment solutions across Asia Pacific.
